iCloud Lock (also called Activation Lock) is a security feature from Apple Inc. that protects Apple devices if they’re lost, stolen, or reset without permission.
What It Actually Is
It’s tied to the Apple ID of the owner and works through the Find My system.
When Find My is turned ON, the device becomes linked to the owner’s Apple ID. If someone tries to reset the device, erase it, or set it up again, they must enter the original Apple ID and password.
Without that, the device is basically unusable.

How iCloud Unlock is Done
